Yes people! I am back! I was away on vacation and if you haven’t guessed already, I was in Indonesia. Landed on the capital, Jakarta. Then a 2 or 3 hour drive to Ciasem, somewhere between Jakarta and Bandung. It was a homestay vacation, we stayed at my sister in law’s house. This is her hometown. We were greeted with an array of “village food” and a birthday cake for another sister in law who turned 25
Yellow rice or Nasi Tumpeng and other side dishes like raw vegetables, fried chicken, fermented soybean tempeh cooked with chillies (my personal favourite. I can eat the whole huge bowl). Ahh sweet!
And breakfast was mostly rice bought from a nearby stall. Nasi Uduk. Ridiculously good and ridiculously cheap. A packet costs like 20cents?
Here’s a snack made for us while we were just hanging out at the front porch on a hot afternoon. Mangoes eaten with salt and a kind of chilli and shrimp paste sauce.
Typical village food spread. Candle lights keep flies away. And believe me, there were a lot of them!
hazrock, not about to do the YMCA

They eat simple food. They even grow rice themselves.

Such strange, alien food to me (except that delicious chocolate cake), but looks very interesting and colorful. The mangoes don’t look ripe, you eat green mangoes?

Yeah. Those were young mangoes, plucked straight from the tree. I didn’t eat them because sometimes mangoes and chillies can have an adverse effect on the stomach, if you know what I mean. And toilet facilities were not like those in the city.
