I’ll Be There For You

29 Jul

This post is dedicated to my best friend.

“No one could ever know me
No one could ever see me
Seems you’re the only one who knows
What it’s like to be me
Someone to face the day with
Make it through all the rest with
Someone I’ll always laugh with
Even at my worst I’m best with you”

-The Rembrandts (Song : I’ll Be There For You, from the TV show Friends)

Both pictures grabbed from Google Search

“Friends” is way up there on my list of favorite sitcoms of all time. I can’t really pick a favorite “Friend”. Their characters were unique in their own way and nothing can change that. Ok ok if I were to pick one, I’d probably picked Chandler Bing. Love his smartass attitude and sarcasm!

“Four Friends” Spices (Cinnamon, Star Anise, Cloves and Cardamom)

I recently came to know that the Malay community (my people!) called this group of spices “Four Friends”. It just means that you must have all four to cook dishes like our curries, flavorful soups and others. Can’t have one without the other. Just can’t! Don’t even think about it!

Homemade Indonesian Mee Bakso

Bakso” are beef balls. Ahh this comforting street food of Indonesia, sold on little push carts along the busy streets of Jakarta and Bandung. It doesn’t really matter that the way they prepare it is in unsanitary and dusty environments. Well, it does actually, especially if you are used to food served in the comforts of air-conditioned restaurants and foodcourts, and the premises are kept clean at all times. Sensitive stomachs beware!

I made mine with a few shortcuts. Frozen beef balls saved the day. The flavorful broth was made with the “four friends” spices, some onions, garlic and ginger and a beef stock cube.

It might not taste that authentic. But I love it. Slurping optional!

-hazrock, love you, bestie! (Urgh! Bestie? *cringe*).
