Drowning Pool

Kacang Pool at my niece’s birthday

The real name for this is Fūl Medammis or simply Fūl, a typical Egyptian dish, consisting of mashed broad beans cooked in spices and served with bread. This dish can also be found in some African countries, with different versions and variations.

Our Malay version is Kacang Pool, “kacang” meaning beans or nuts. Sometimes a little bit of ground beef is added for extra flavor. A bowl of this, topped with a fried egg and other condiments like diced tomatoes and onions, sliced green chili and a squeeze of lime. Served with a warm toasted bread. Delish!

As a kid, I didn’t like this dish. It just didn’t look appealing to children and especially so with all the tomatoes, onions and green chili. It was only in adulthood when I finally decided to try it and the rest is history.

-hazrock, bean there done that

I love kacang pool, especially with a little bit of ghee.:)

Oh right! People used to add ghee to kacang pool! Well, a little bit of ghee won’t hurt anybody. 🙂
