It has always been called Soup Kambing or Mutton Soup. Kambing is the Malay word for goat. For lamb, it’s kambing biri-biri. So is it goat soup or lamb soup? Truthfully I don’t know. I only know it’s delicious.
The dish has a lot of spices and coupled with the sweetness of lamb, it makes the soup so flavorful. And to your preference, you can have different parts of the lamb. I always go for the boring and safe, the meat. But people like Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmerman will go for other parts like tripe or tongue. Yes. Tongue. Or maybe even other unmentioned organs. For err.. strength maybe? Heheh!!
