Milk Tea with Pearls from Gong Cha

Bubble Tea originated from Taiwan. Iced red or green tea with tapioca starch balls added. Of course there are variants with milk or fruit flavourings added. My personal favourite is Green Apple Green Tea. But I also like Caramel Milk Tea. Also the Grape Red Tea. And the Mango Snow Shake. Ok ok! I like a lot of flavours!

Bubble Teas are served as to-go drinks, that is, in plastic cups. And it often comes with a huge straw to facilitate the tapioca starch balls or “pearls” entering the straw so that you get the tea and pearl together from one sip. The pearls have a chewy texture, but some people don’t like that and opt out of having it in their drinks. I love them. Without them, this is not bubble tea.

Some bubble teas get a luxurious treatment with premium ingredients. Like this one. A Chocolate Oreo ice blended with pearls and chocolate chips. Yummmm! So refreshingly cool on a hot day.
