Ice Kacang. Photo grabbed from Google

Doesn’t that look bee-yooooo-ti-ful!!! On a hot day like today I feel like a frozen treat. What better way to do that than a cold cold Ice Kacang. Kacang means nuts or beans in Malay. This local delight is basically a mixture of good stuff in a bowl. Red Beans, grass jelly (nope, doesn’t contain grass. We are not grazing cows in a pasture!), attap chee (palm seeds), corn kernels maybe. Shaved ice packed over it, usually they make it to be a mountain shape. Then sugar and palm sugar syrups and evaporated milk are poured over it. Maybe some creamed corn to finish it off if you’re feeling funky.

In Singapore, this is Ice Kacang. In Malaysia, this is called ABC, Air Batu Campur (Mixed Ice? Direct translation). And the Indonesian version is called Es Teler.

So i thought i’d buy ice kacang and bring home. Word of warning : If you buy this to go, be prepared to be disappointed. Because it will look like this!

Yikes!! That, does not even look like the picture above. Esthetically not very pleasing. But it still taste the same. So, yum!
